Artist Spotlight: Tamzene
We had the chance to chat with multi-faceted singer-songwriter Tamzene, after the release of her latest EP 'In Any Weather'. Read below for her thoughts on the EP's release, her life growing up in the Highlands, and her upcoming headline Scottish shows!
TODAY YOU RELEASED YOUR NEW EP 'IN ANY WEATHER'. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE PROCESS OF WRITING AND RECORDING THESE TRACKS?
These songs span quite a few years of life, they’re a collection of the highest highs and the lowest lows, so the journey was long and there was a lot of exploration along the way. Writing each one was the best kind of therapy though because I was pushing myself to process what I was going through. Everyone involved in making this project poured so much creativity and talent into it, bringing it all together last year was a really positive, healing experience for me as an artist.
YOU'VE SPOKEN A LOT ABOUT YOUR UPBRINGING IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS AND THE INFLUENCE THAT THIS HAS HAD ON YOU. DO YOU FIND YOURSELF STILL DRAWING INSPIRATIONS FROM THE LOCAL LANDSCAPE?
Always! The Highlands will forever be my grounding and will always feel like home. I think the peace I search for when making music has a lot to do with my early years of songwriting alone in Cromarty, and the joy I get from performance has a lot to do with my years busking in Inverness Highstreet. It’s such a big part of who I am and although I lost it as a base last year with the passing of my stepfather-dad, I still have a beautiful and important community there.
YOU'RE ABOUT TO HEAD OUT ON YOUR HEADLINE TOUR NEXT MONTH ALONGSIDE RELEASING NEW MUSIC. ARE THERE ANY OTHER EXCITING PROJECTS ON THE HORIZON FOR YOU?
Yes I’m extremely excited to be touring again, I have the most amazing support joining me too. I’m going to take some time to enjoy that and then onto more music, festivals and shows!
WE'RE REALLY EXCITED FOR YOUR UPCOMING SHOWS IN INVERNESS AND GLASGOW. FOR YOU - WHAT'S THE MOST SPECIAL PART ABOUT PLAYING HOMETOWN SHOWS?
I get to hang out with my 'day ones', the friends and fans that have been a huge part of me getting this far. Getting to see and sing for those people is the dream to be honest. Although I haven’t had many of my own shows, they’ve always been so special and you can feel the mutual love!
