Q&A: Hollow Coves

Q&A: Hollow Coves

We caught up with Hollow Coves ahead of their show on 24th November at Stereo...

Describe your sound in 3 words.

Adventurous, Vibey, Uplifting

What music did you listen to growing up?

We both listened to a lot of early Angus and Julia Stone. Before that it was a bit of a mess. We both went through a bit of a Blink 182 phase. I actually listened to a lot of rap and hip hop when I was younger.

Tell us the inspiration behind your latest album ' Moments' ...

We got a lot of messages from fans saying that our music helped them through tough times. That really inspired us to write music that could be uplifting. We wanted to write an album that could help people to see the beauty in life and motivate them to make the most of life.

Favourite Glasgow hang outs?

We've only been to Glasgow once and it was pretty rushed so we didn't get to experience it properly. All I can remember is that we played a show at The Garage and then had some really good Indian for dinner at an Indian place near the venue. We might need some recommendations for when we come back!

Favourite venue you’ve ever performed?

Probably 3Arena in Dublin opening for Walking on Cars. That was our first ever Arena show and the crowd was amazing. That was a really special night for us.

If you could have dinner with anyone in music past or present who would it be, and why?

Maybe Mac Demarco because he's such a strange character and it would probably be pretty entertaining.

Is there anything that you can’t go on tour without?

Music in the car. Earlier this year we hired a rental car on tour and the only way to play music, aside from the radio, was via an SD card slot. We had never seen that before and we didn't have an SD card. Safe to say the journeys felt extra long in that car.

Tell us about your most memorable gig…

It is probably still the first show we ever played in Montreal. It was in a tiny room which was jam packed with 200 people. For some reason we had pretty low expectations for the night. We thought it was just going to be a chilled evening. However, as soon as we walked out on stage the crowd went wild and we just got so much energy from them. They were the perfect crowd. They were dead quiet in the quiet songs. They gave the loudest applauses. They clapped along when we wanted them to. They sang along when we wanted them to. It was just a really special night.

If you could have one song on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

That's a tough one. I don't think we could do it. We'd go insane. It would have to be something pretty mellow. Maybe a Bon Iver track. We both love Re:Stacks by them.

Any exciting plans for 2020?

So many. We're already looking into touring plans. We've been talking about going and playing in some places we've never been before so we're pretty excited about that. We're just excited to see where the year takes us.
