The Bhangra Beatles are not your average Beatles tribute band. The 7 piece fuse the songs of The Beatles with the high octane beats of traditional Punjabi folk music and Bhangra, to create a sound that is truly unique and guaranteed to fill any dancefloor.
The band was formed by Sanjay Majhu and David Tonner in 2016 through their love of all things Beatles. The duo began regularly jamming, gradually introducing other musicians into the mix until they found their sound. On a whim, they decided to experiment by incorporating traditional Indian instruments the Tabla, Dhol and Sitar into a few songs, it was a risk that worked, the drums added a vibrancy and rhythm to the songs that was infectious, giving the band a sound that was unmistakably their own.
The last 2 years have been jam packed for the Bhangra Beatles with gigs spanning the length and breadth of Scotland. Audiences at Oran Mor, Canada Wood, OVO Energy Tour Series, STV Edinburgh Mela, Best of the West Festival, Glasgow Mela, Glasgow’s West End Festival and Strathavan Arts and Heritage Centre were taught to Bhangra dance to Beatles music whilst the band played Beatles hits such as: ‘Saw Her Standing,’ Eight Days a Week,’ ‘Back in the USSR,’ ‘Hard Day’s Night’ and Can’t Buy Me Love.
